BB&D has prepared some helpful tips for packing, as well as a list of packing supplies that will make your job easier and more efficient.

Packing effectively is essential for a smooth and stress-free move. Here are some advanced tips to ensure your belongings are packed securely and organized for transportation:
1. Detailed Labeling: Not only label boxes with their contents but also indicate the destination room. This not only helps movers but also makes unpacking easier.
2. Prioritize Essentials: Identify and mark boxes containing items you’ll need immediately upon arrival at your destination. This ensures easy access to crucial items during the unpacking process.
3. Proper Box Sizes: Pack heavier items like books in smaller boxes to prevent them from becoming too heavy to lift. Conversely, use larger boxes for lighter items such as lampshades to maximize space efficiency.
4. Empty Drawers and Furniture: Avoid leaving breakables and liquids in drawers, and ensure pressed wood furniture is emptied to prevent damage during transit.
5. Fragile Items Handling: Wrap fragile items individually with white paper to provide extra protection. Clearly mark boxes containing delicate items as “fragile” to alert movers.

6. Strategic Packing: Place the heaviest and largest items at the bottom of cartons to distribute weight evenly and prevent crushing fragile items below.
7. Plates and Dishes: Pack plates and dishes vertically to minimize the risk of breakage. Use white paper for wrapping and cushioning.
8. Dry Food Packing: Pack dry food items in smaller cartons to prevent overloading and ensure they remain intact during transit.
9. Special Handling for Mirrors and Pictures: Pad, wrap, and place large mirrors and pictures in special cartons or crates designed for fragile items. For smaller mirrors and pictures, pack them with soft items like pillows to prevent damage.
